У Львові розпочав працю Синод Єпископів УГКЦ cerkiew.net.pl В четвер 2 вересня, в Брюховичах біля Львова, у Реколекційному Домі Львівської Архієпархії, розпочав робочі засідання Синод Єпископів УГКЦ. Українські греко-католицькі Владики з цілого світу зустрічаються кожного року, щоб переговорити найважливіші біжучі справи УГКЦ. Синод Єпископів начисляє сьогодні 50 Владик, з яких 15 це Владики-емерити. В цьому році до Львова приїхало біля 40 Владик. |

Під час проведення цьогорічного Синоду УГКЦ відбудеться Хіротонія нового Єпископа - Помічника Львівської Архиєпархії. risu.org.ua Єпископська хіротонія єромонаха Венедикта (Алексійчука) відбудеться 5 вересня 2010 року в Архикатедральному соборі Святого Юра (м. Львів, пл. Святого Юра, 5). Початок Літургії об 11.00. Напередодні, у суботу, о 18.00 під час Великої вечірні відбудеться Чин найменування. За повідомленням департаменту інформації УГКЦ, Головним святителем буде владика Ігор (Возьняк), архиєпископ Львівський, а співсвятителями – владики Юліян (Вороновський), єпарх Самбірсько-Дрогобицький, та Павло (Хомницький), єпарх Стемфордський (США). У хіротонії візьмуть участь члени Синоду єпископів УГКЦ, який відбуватиметься у Львові 2-9 вересня. |

The Ukrainian Catholic Church of Transfiguration of Our Lord in Moskalyks Spasa, Alberta celebrated 100th year Anniversary. edmontoneparchy.com On Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, one of our Ukrainian Catholic Churches, the Transfiguration of Our Lord at Moskalyks Spasa, Alberta, celebrated their 100th Anniversary. The Pontifical Divine Liturgy was celebrated by three Bishops: Most Rev. David Motiuk, Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton, Most Rev. Stephen Chmilar, D.D., Eparch of Toronto and Eastern Canada and Most Rev. Ken Nowakowski, Eparch of New Westminster along with concelebrants Rev. Ignatius Holowaychuk, OSBM, Rev. Josaphat Tyrkalo, OSBM and Deacon Jim Nakonechny. There were more than 200 people who came to celebrate this wonderful event, including Alberta's Priemer Ed Stelmach and his wife Maria. 14 серпня 2010 року - початок Успенського посту (Cпасівка). ugcc.org.ua Християни перших віків до великих празників завжди приготовлялися постом і молитвою. З цієї священної практики з часом розвинулися коротші чи довші пости. На першому місці стоїть тут Великий Піст перед світлим празником Господньої Пасхи. Перед празником Христового Різдва ввійшов у звичай піст Пилипівки. З особливого культу до святих верховних апостолів Петра й Павла зродився піст Петрівки. А вкінці, прийшов наймолодший з чотирьох річних постів, піст Успенський. Ним ми приготовляємо себе до найбільшого празника Пресвятої Богородиці, її святого Успення. |

Icons create epiphanies of beauty - Living Water College of Arts course in writing icons opens students' hearts, deepens faith. wcr.ab.ca A dozen participants are in Epiphanies of Beauty, a course about iconography at Living Water College of the Arts. The students also study Eastern tradition, history and spirituality. (...) Deacon Jim Nakonechny, of the Edmonton Ukrainian Eparchy, has long been looking for a suitable place to study iconography. (...) "One of the things my training and education has always been about is beautifying our churches. Salvation comes through beauty. We can draw people to the Church and encourage our youth by bringing back the richness of our faith and the traditions of our churches through our iconography and architecture." (...) "You're not only learning a technique but you're also building yourself spiritually. Being here at Living Water College is nice because it's away from the busyness and hubbub of the big city," Nakonechny said. |

The Eldorena Church is also known as the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or Pokrova. (...) About two hundred people gathered to commemorate the event. (...) Father Wilf Murchland and Right Reverend Jack Hamilton from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, and Father Rendall Yackimec from St. Sophia Ukrainian Catholic Parish also participated in the blessing ceremony. |

He is survived by his sons, Stephen (Marie), Nestor and Andrij; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Nina, Natalia, Lianna, Larisa, Tania and John Makuch, and two great-grandchildren, Simon and Ryan Makuch. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Kateryna (nee Hnat); three brothers in childhood, Volodymyr, Yakiv and Simon, and brothers Stefan and (the second) Yakiv in Ukraine. |
