The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is observed in Canada between the two Sundays within which January 25 falls. The Week of Prayer seeks to increase unity in the body of Christ by gathering different traditions for prayer and worship together. ANNOUNCEMENTS Pope Benedict XVI’s Message for the 41st World Day of Peace, which falls on January 1, has as its theme: “The Human Family, a Community of Peace” (Людська спільнота – спільнота миру). Please find linked a message from Pope Benedict XVI for the World Day for Migrants and Refugees, to be celebrated on January 13, the theme of which is “Young Migrants.” The Vatican’s Congregation for the Clergy unveiled a web site offering the Bible in nine languages, the Code of Canon Law and commentary on Sunday liturgy: www.bibliaclerus.org (part of its www.clerus.org web site). While the websites are open to everyone, they are geared toward serving the world’s priests, deacons and catechists, the letter said. People accessing the new site will be able to read Scripture along with its interpretation in light of tradition, the teachings of the church and papal commentaries. Biblical texts are available in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, English, Italian, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. Linked for your information is a letter sent by CCCB President Archbishop V. James Weisgerber to Prime Minister Stephen Harper regarding capital punishment and a new policy by the Government of Canada not to intervene with other governments when Canadians are facing a sentence of execution. Proceeds from the eparchy-wide collection in support of the 2008 International Eucharistic Congress, which will take place June 15-22, 2008, Quebec City, amounted to $3,675.00 ($300 St. Vladimir Parish, Edmonton; $437 Sts.
