All clergy are invited to concelebrate (red vestments). Pastors are invited to encourage their parishioners to attend. The 47 th World Day of Prayer for Vocations will be celebrated on April 25, the Fourth Sunday of Easter (“Good Shepherd Sunday” on the Latin Calendar). Pope Benedict XVI’s message for the Day of Prayer focuses on “Witness Awakens Vocations." Excerpts from the document are attached. Deacon Roman Planchak will be ordained to the Sacred Order of the Priesthood by Bishop David on May 1, 10:00 am at Saint Josaphat Cathedral. National March for Life will be held in Ottawa on May 13. The Eparchy of Edmonton will host Sheptytsky Institute Study Days from July 30 to August 1 at King’s College, Edmonton. The Study Days are an opportunity for the clergy, religious, monastics and laity to come together in prayer and faith development. Plenary and workshop sessions will appeal to a variety of interests and audiences. Specialized sessions for youth and cantors. Keynote speakers include Right Rev. Dr. Andriy Chirovsky, Very Rev. Dr. Peter Galadza, and Very Rev. Dr. John Jillions. Further information and registration forthcoming. The Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute will offer two accredited courses from August 2-13 in Edmonton: THO 3324 Introduction to Eastern Christian Ethics (Monday-Friday mornings) and THO 2144 Selected Topics in Eastern Christian Spirituality I: A Contemporary Reading of “The Way of the Pilgrim,” (Monday-Friday evenings). ANNOUNCEMENTS Pope Benedict XVI issued his Message for the 25 th World Youth Day, which was celebrated on Palm Sunday (Flowery Sunday), March 28. The theme for this year is “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life.” Extracts from the Message, as well as from his Palm Sunday address are attached. The Pope’s Message for the 84 th World Mission Day has been published. This year the Day falls on Sunday, October 24, and has as its theme: “Building Ecclesial Communion is the Key to the Mission.” Extracts from the Message are attached. Attached for your information is: a copy of a letter from CCCB President Bishop Pierre Morissette to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, regarding the situation in the Holy Land and how it affects Christians there; and a copy of a related press release from the Holy Land concerning restrictions being imposed by Israeli authorities on celebrations planned in Jerusalem for Holy Week. Attached is a copy of the Paschal Greeting of the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops in Canada. (English and Ukrainian) In response to the pleas for international assistance following the earthquake in Haiti, the faithful of the Eparchy of Edmonton donated $56,700 towards the relief efforts.
