  • The 2012 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be celebrated from January 18-25. The roots of the Week go back to the 1800s; it is one of the oldest, most widely observed ecumenical events in the world. This particular week is chosen because it represents an octave which begins with the feast of St. Peter and ends with the feast of the conversion of St. Paul (according to the Western Christian calendar). Finding ways to pray together during this January week means that we are in harmony with people around the world, which brings its own graces; in this way, we join with all who are praying, reflecting, studying, and even eating and drinking together to celebrate and pray for Christian unity. This year’s theme was chosen by the Churches of Poland and focuses on the transformative power of faith in Christ, particularly in relation to our praying for the visible unity of the Church, the body of Christ. The theme is based on Saint Paul’s words to the Church in Corinth:  “We will all be changed by the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15: 51-58), which speaks of the temporary nature of our present lives in comparison to what we receive through the victory of Christ through the Paschal Mystery.
  • To mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Edmonton, a special ecumenical service will be held at Know Metropolitan United Church (8307-109 street) at 7 pm, January 22.
  • Parishes and organizations are once again invited to share the joyous news of Our Lord’s Birth with Bishop David with the age-old custom of Christmas Carolling. Please contact the Chancery Office to schedule a time on January 28 (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm).
